Laidler's Bren Book - Lost Cause?

Hi guys-

Very nice new home for the forum. I used to get about a dozen pop-ups every time I loaded the old board.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but is there any news about Peter Laidler's book? (Has it been at least 2 years that we've been waiting, now?)

If the book people aren't going forward, I wish someone would just burn it onto a CD-R, or even photocopy it.

Maybe an "E-book"?

last I heard he was still plugging away trying to find a good publisher. I know he has invested a lot of time and effort into the project and if it was me I would be loathe to release it in a format that I'm not happy with and which would be pirated to death and with some other booger getting the profits.

If anyone can add anymore recent info I for one would be grateful to know how things stand.

Yes, proper publishing would be best.

I can confirm that Peter is still looking for a publisher, but the problem is that some publishers want to shorten and omit some items. I Know Peter to be a perfectionist. He is also still receiving information from people.

If anyone is in contact with him, tell him not to give up and ask him to please also write a book about the L1A1 from the armorer's perspective.

Perhaps if we get a list of intrested persons, that would convince a potential publisher to go ahead with it?

Trouble is in a specialist market of relatively small print runs I would have thought he must have just about tried every publishing house by now

I'd be happy to buy it as a weekly/bi weekly publication to compile in a ring binder,at least that way pages or new information as it became known could be added and amended. They way things are going with new info coming to light it would last for years !

Some of the weekly compilation magazines even include parts to build an item as an incentive to keep buying it ......maybe a MK4 Bren ;D......part 1 with a free receiver !

Peter was offered a publishing deal in Canada, but apparently it was not to his liking. With such a small following, and on the tails of the BGS X 2, one does not hold all five aces in the deck... :-)##
I somehow think that it was a clash of two ego's, that the book is not in print. My .02 P/cents on the issue. I, however, await it's publication.

I bought a MK3 stock off him on ebay last fall I believe and we chatted back an forth for a bit.

He did mention that his Brenbook will be quite detailed and as he knew I am Canadian mentioned he will be dedicating quite a bit of the book to Inglis.

He also mentioned something about the 7.92 Brens and some info he had on them. Something about them not really going overseas like everyone assumed etc etc. Needless to say it was very interesting. I have the email somewhere I also kept the note he wrote to me for the stock and have it in my Sten book like the true fan I am.
