I have a chance to buy a Bren which the seller is claiming as an early .303 cal mk1. The drum type sight is right next to the magazine instead of the usual position. The upper receiver, serial number 2493, is marked "ZBROJOVKA BRNO, A.S", but apparently has no model number. So what is this gun?
It also looks like the lower receiver, barrel, and buttstock are mk2 bren. If this is an early CZ manufactured Bren, would mk1 lower parts be appropriate?
I'm sure "the Bren Saga" would answer my questions, but I have misplaced my copy.

Without some photos it is hard to say, but at this stage I would say it sounds fishy. The prototypes were all marked with the respective models, and the serial number is way too high. The sight position and the full butt slide could make it a ZGBvz33 Model 2, or a Model 3 if it has the double dovetail, either of which could have been fitted with later parts, but the originals were all well marked with model numbers and very low serial numbers. Lets see what some of the other forum members say.

cmpman I would guess that it may well be a ZB39 body on the gun, does it have any crests or coat of arms to the top rear or the body ?
Which numbers does it show by the fire select lever ? -
20 0 1
25 0 1
30 0 1

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll pass on this one. I prefer Inglis guns anyway.
