I'm involved with an auction that is coming up and while cataloguing a Bren (Inglis Mk. 1M, 1941) there is a bit of a headache.
It's been fitted with a 100 round magazine adaptor plate but the mag isn't being sold with the gun. It's probably better that the adaptor comes off and is sold separately since they are a highly sort after item.
The question is, what is the trick to removing the adaptor bracket from the gun? From the looks of it, it replaces the magazine port cover and I didn't want to just wade into it and start breaking things trying to remove it.
Sorry I can't ask the owner as they have passed away.

Section from the SAT that says how to fit sent to your home address Kevin, there's no how to remove in the edition I have, just a case of reverse the process!. Did the gun come with the magazine hole cover they remove to fit the adapter? If you don't have a good un spare in the bucket-o'-Bren-bits I can post you down one I was given no problem.
Infact wasn't it you who posted me them in the first place? ;-{D)

Hi Kevin
First remove the barrel, then on the adapter you will see a flat spring retained by a split pin. Remove the split pin then lift and slide the spring forward and out of the mag cover slot. The adapter can then be lifted at the rear and slid forward off the gun. This would now be good time to replace the mag well cover if you have one. At the top rear of the barrel nut you will see a small sprung-loaded pin. Pushing this in allows the plate retaining ball to drop down so you can slide in the cover plate.

Hi KINZ ,remove barrel, remove the split pin , this will now enable you to withdraw the spring steel part of the adaptor from the magazine cover slot. The main part of the adaptor can now be slid forward until it is free of the leg guide rails. Clean up adaptor and list on Ebay ;D I guess this is what happens when you make a cup of tea half way through typing a response out

THANKS guys for the details, I'll give it a go this Saturday when I do some photo's for the catalogue. Unfortunately you won't be able to bid for it on eBay it has to be sold at the auction the catalogue is being done for.
As to the magazine port cover, I'm not sure if the part is around to put back on it. It might just have to be auctioned complete with an adaptor plate and 100 round magazine.
Now will people pay the same money for the Bren fitted with a 100 round drum compared to buying the individual components? probaby not.

Could you get the serial number of it? If its '41 dated it must be a M,N,P or 0T number

I can indeed post the details of the Auction, although I might upset Woodsy if you guys end up winning the items instead of him LOL
I can't remember the full Serial number but it did start with 'M'xxxx
Don't think you will get a bargain from down here, typically 100 round Bren mags sell for between NZ$1000 - $1500 (£330 - £495) and that's without an adaptor.

M would make it earlyish then, anywhere between M4842 and M9999 (unless it is a transitional Bren).

Don't worry about me, Kevin! I already have a Mk II drum and adapter, however if it is a Mk I.....! I think this year is going to see some nice items come up for auction here - so many goodies and so little money! ;D

It's been decided that the gun will be sold with the adaptor brack in place since we can't find the magazine opening cover.
The serial number is M9335
