Clark, I see from the Canadian Gunnutz forum that you also have a C /I\ stamped on the bottom of the dovetail on your FLS ........so the marking isn't specific to the box ......hmmmmm. So not very likely to be a box sub-contractors mark .....so much for my 2p's worth ;D Anyone know of any other reference books apart from Ian Skennertons 'The Broad Arrow' that deals with British and Commonwealth markings ?

Hi brit, i notice in your box pic that thier is a circular stamp next to the date stamp , can you try dusting it to see if you cal pic out the internal numbering. Looks like it may be the same as the circular plessy inspection stamps all over the dial sights. Can't do it myself as i dont have a box ........ Cheers ! ;D

I want to see if thier is any relationship between the two, ( at least two of the sight have the number 210 stamped to the base but i dont have both serials )
Cheers for any replies in advance regards Tim

Hi Tim, My sight number is 11525 and the base is stamped C (one arrow) over 500.
I can't identify the number in the circle but it is identical in size to the plessy marks, and there is a un identifiable jummble of numbers and or letters in it.

Hi guys , Thanks for the info on the serials and stamps ........for one glorious moment i thought a trend was developing then my theory was blown out of the water by the last set of detials i recieved . What was happening was that as the ser no increased, so did the figure stamped to the base of the sight , then i got one with a relativly high ser number and the base numbers reverted to a previous one. Theory dead........and now laid to rest in an attractive plot complete with headstone and floral arrangement Ho Hum tim

Old message I know, but I found a photo of a Vickers tripod (like Rich mentioned) on the new Gunners website dedicated to the Vickers. (it may be Rich's) www.vickersgun.com/gallery.htm
