Inglis Bren Mk1.m with DD.

Ok guys,

Just bought a Inglis mk1.m DD like Kevs and CMPMAN, only problem is, its been re-numbered and had the date and inglis milled out. Now, I know its got to be between M4200 and M4841, and with a date between april 41 and july '41. So, why did someone remove the identifying marks?

Any ideas??

Well to make it more intresting, it came with an Enfield Mk1 mag, which is a bonus, and as I was cleaning it, I was looking for any marks left intact. And guess what I found!!!!!!

I'll wait for some one to guess, cos I've never seen it on a Bren before!!

To be very serious if you can make out the number associated with the said chicken thier are many good avenues to go down to check out the number and where the waffenampt came from .

Just where on the gun is it marked ? Perhaps a Dieppe pick up?
closest to the presumed date on the gun and first major action of canadian units on the continent, or some sort of raid ,whos to say in all honesty?

You have some detective work to delve into .If i were you ( and i am a pessimistic buger at the best of times ) i would actually find a mate with a range of german kit and do some serious measuring and comparison of stamps and styles of stamp.......thier are some truly evil gits out thier.
Keep us up to date if you can as its interesting to see what pans out.

I was thinking it was a possible Dieppe capture, it was mainly canadians involved. Theres also St nazziere aswell. I'll get a shot of the gun as a whole and where the eagle is.

Kev, its the only mark! and I cant make out number, it may have a circle underneath the chicken, cant quite tell.

Looks the same as the one on my k 98s , only you have a wing missing .

they also dont all have a waa number.

i wuld say from the pic that it does have a very faint circle below

Hi Kev,

I've been trying to get some photo's but it hasn't bloody stopped! Not once! Theres no internal marks on any of the components. I can only assume that any marks have been removed post capture back from the Germans. The one that escaped removal was probably hidden as its on the arch bit in front of the barrel nut and underneath where the mag housing cover is. Does your Mk1m have an Early long tapered flash cone barrel or a later, short tapered flash cone barrel? This one has a Enfield early barrel with the markings hammered/peened out.

Mk1m intermediate has long cone ,MKIm has short cone (not serial numbered to the gun though)
