Just joined live in the land of Oz Up the east side near the pointy end .Cairns Queensland Australia to be exact. Have a Vickers , MK1 & MK2 Brens all in various stages of rebuilding .Unlike you lucky buggers living in Uk,USA,and even those little islands coverd in clouds to my southeast {Bloody AllBlacks stole our trohpy again} We in Oz must grit our teeth ,smile and make do with what we can find ,beg ,borrow or steal to further our collections over here . So please make sure you enjoy it while you can and hope you don't follow Australia. I must be having a bad day I normally don't let it get to me .But the English to our Ashes and the Kiwis to the Bleadsloe cup ,And Johnny Howard won't let me collect the guns I want to . What can I say !

Aren't those the Ashes of English Cricket..? In which case, surely they are ours and they were just taken to Oz..? Welcome aboard Regards MattGibbs PS Just for those interested in Cricket one of our local teams was up in the paper for the whole team being bowled out for a duck each, they only scored 5 as extras! Bad luck or what!

G'Day Matt That truely is a shocker . I will let Shane Warne know not to keep them out so late at night next time. And to answer Kev's question about deac spec 's each state in Oz has there own laws I know that in south Australia deac weapons that have been partly sectionized need no licence. But in Queensland the following applies for All auto and semi auto . Firstly you must be licenced as a collector all weapons must be registered you must have secure storage facilities like a gunsafe /vault.Next a armourer must place a pin thru the barrel so a round cannot be chambered the bolt face is ground down/welded up the trigger is welded so the bolt cannot be retained in the cocked position.Other than that nothing else !!! Oh I forgot you have to find it first . I almost wet my pants the first time I found out what is available oversea's Kev could you or someone else please explain your deac system ie old spec's new spec's .Matt I have posted a reply to an old thread about a webbing strap for vicker's watercan you had for sale is it still available? regards Daryl

G'day Daryl,
How's things mate?
Just joined up myself and noticed your post. I was a member of the old forum but have been a bit slack in joining the new one. But that's sorted now. The people here are real great very helpfull and nice for a chat.
Tom is a wealth of knowladge and has helped me a great deal with info and the odd small part, without his help I'd be stuffed.
Anything new with yourself? Nothing new here but things are looking promising as far as the all metal replicas go that I mentioned before. I'll let you know if anything comes of it. Wonder if these guys would like to know.
Anyway have a good one and I'll see you around.
All the best.
Mal.

G'day to both Daryl & Mal. Just to make matters worse, the All Blacks are going to have another go at you tomorrow night! Regarding replicas, I know that in NSW & Queensland (where I have sent replicas) a State Collectors Licence is required as well as a Federal Import Permit. I send everything by air freight so the the Oz PO has no chance to refuse to handle them. The crap in Oz not only restricts imports, but I have an 1898 Krag that I bought over there last year that I am still trying to get an export licence for! My NZ Import Permit was written out while I stood at the counter at the local Police Station. Where would we be without bloody bureaucrats!

G'day again, Thanks for the welcome. You should try living here and being a collector, it's a right painfull situation to say the least. The replica laws are different state to state. In South Oz we don't need anything as far as I am have been informed by the powers that be. But having said that they may have changed the laws again since last week! And yes it's incredibly frustrating trying to import or export items now. Every deact firearm is treated as a working example by our customs bods even if it's welded solid it's still considered a working firearm! You work out the logic to that! Re the replica's here there is a local chap in Victoria who is trying to make all metal replica Brens but is still in the early stages yet. He has to be carefull to meet all legal requirements and also get the info / drawings together to undertake it. They are planing on making them a composit of replica bodys and barrels with as many original parts as he can source. I'll keep everyone posted with the makers permission on their progress. But they will be greatly cheper than an original which wouldnt be hard. All the best. Mal.
