Hi all. Just thought some of you might be interested to here and see what your dollar buys you down here in Oz. It will make you feel ill what we have to pay now but it will give you an idea of what we go through for our Bren collecting. For example the below pics ( thanks for the help with the pic's Kevin ) represent my collecting efforts spanning about four years on a limited budget. By limited I mean of about $1,000 a year. But more to the point the hardest thing about collecting the Bren down here is simply finding the parts. Which are almost non existent now, as we are all hording what little we have. All parts are legal and deactivated to the current standard just incase you were wondering. On average a deactivated gun can go for anywhere from about $5,000 to up to $10,000 here. No I'm not joking. The last one I found for sale was a sectioned example and it went for $9,000 and sold real quick. So hence the poor state of my collection. If I had money to burn which I don't then I could probably find a Bren somewhere but with my limited resources I'm pretty much stuffed. And no we cant import deactivated / sectioned or anything Bren as they are all classified as working units by our customs chaps and banned as a result. Can't work out the logic there! So all you collectors with an Oz Lithgow made Bren look after them as we would just about give up a body part for them here. Anyway thought some of you might be interested. All the best. Mal.

Hi all, ;D Yes that's pretty much what happened down here. Breaks one's heart that. There is some poetic justice in it though as a Bren bit back before it died so to speak. The politicians were trying to do a big fancy media display to show how good they were in getting rid of these nasty evil things and picked on a Bren to destroy in front of the cameras. They putt it on a hydraulic press and the first time it came down to crunch the Bren it barely scratched it. So they pumped it up to full force and tried again. The Bren just grunted and broke their multi dollar press! Blue the hydraulic lines and stuffed it good and proper! The Bren just refused to die and made the poli look like a right Pratt. In the end they had to get in a serious blow torch and cut it up! Well she fought until the end poor old girl! The government paid stupid over the top money for them during the buy back scheme so everyone cashed in but we are now paying the price literately for what little is left. All can be legally owned with no special license mind you. Go figure. On a foot note I've found another Bren for sale here but it is in a real sorry state. It has been flame cut the full length north to south so to speak to deactivate it. Then this guy has patched it back together using steel plate and welds. It's now for sale at the nice sum of $7,000. No thanks! Gives you an idea of how stupid things are here. We go through allot for our Bren's here so to those who have Lithgow made examples in their collections please look after them, your very lucky. All the best. Mal.
