Hello folks [especially tom and kev ] I have trawled the CD kindly sent by Tom with Bren info. There is a section on the spares box with proposed list of contents, but is there also somewhere an ACTUAL list, in case I am working off something that was changed later you see haha. Just thought I would check before sending off a list of wants to Mike/Kev. Luckily it hopefully happens our "contact in Oz" member is helping me out with the spares tins, star bloke! If anyone has a copy of the actual list for the size A box would be grateful to see it. Also if anyone has any photos of the boxes and contents that would also be a help, to see what goes where kinda thing. Many thanks for your help guys. Hoping to have a really nice looking display. My intention is C.1940, so if things changed that would also be a help to know. IE contents of barrel and spares bag. Regards Matt Gibbs

Hi Mat if I sent you all the Bren List of Changes its LoC B 4115 you want from 1941 when the bat box was introduced. Its lists the contents for A and B.
Kev, could you put the LoCs for it up please?

Matt,I think you are going to have to go for a 43> setup. Before 1943 the Bren Battalion spares boxes were converted from Lewis gun boxes that had a flush brass catch (anyone got a pic of a Lewis box ? It wasn't until all the stocks of Lewis boxes at Weedon had been used up that new made Bren ones were manufactured in 43 using a cheaper catch (as per the one fitted to yours and the bottom 2 below) I think the Lewis catch was similar to the ones used on the Aussie Bat boxes (top in pic) middle pic is a 7.62 B Brit box made in 1990 ! bottom pic a 43 Brit B box

*swoon* Ooooh. Right! Will have to cover up the catch with a handy piece of rag or something. That is until you tell me the box layout of internals is different too. LOL. Do you mean the Lewis drum mag boxes because we have 1 or 2 of those in our Home Guard unit, which go with the Lewis gun.
Many thanks for the list kev. Will now start makng a list of what I don't have for Mike/you to look through. Breech blocks just arrived today and look good. TY Matt

Yikes. reading further, I thought I was told mine was a box A. It only has 2 trays inside I thought. Dammit, will have to dig it out from under a huge pile of stuff and actually look at the darn thing. Serves me right for assuming. I am now guessing there is a smaller box out there as well? Filled "B" is going to bankrupt me, I mean to say, 16 breech blocks...errr.....oh dear. I cannot imagine how it all fits into the space either! Only logical things I can see is the gas piston in the bottom with 2 spare butts. Matt

Hi Matt, the coversions were from the Lewis Battalion spares box not the drum mag boxes I'm afraid. The layout on all brit B boxes for whatever MK of gun are the same, 2 trays and a section in the bottom of the box for the 2 butts and a piston with piston extension.Aussie B boxes have 3 trays and are of a different layout. 'A' boxes have only 1 tray. The bad news is that it IS very expensive to fill them up The good news is, most of the bits are availlable ;D

Thanks for clarifying that Kev, good point. A shame Mr Skennertons generic book seems to portray the 3 tray box that was really specific to Oz only! LOL. I think I shall bite the bullet and make an initial list of wants and then just see what the prices are. If its too much I just won't bother and carry on with collecting my MECo webbing. Cheers Matt
