Could any one witha copy of my "Short history of Bren Slings" Document please substitute the following paragraph for the one on Australian slings...
The Australians introduced a 57 inch Slings, submachine gun, web (Aust) CAA 3600 in 1942 and their 1945 Bren parts list shows that with a pair of Hooks, sling, universal CAA 1400 This was also proper to the Bren. A similar green sling was used with their L2A1, LMGs Sling, Small Arms, cotton web, 59-in long, Mk 11005-66-030-7857 (Fig. 8a) and would have been used with their L4A4s no doubt. Another sling, shown in their 1979 L4 Handbook, Sling, Carrying Ammunition 8465-66-040-0232 (Fig. 7) with two light weight looking hooks and double D ring adjustment of length was made. A third type of sling was used in the 1970s / 80s which resembled the UK L7 sling but with a sliding camouflaged shoulder pad. (Fig. 8b)
If any one has a minty Aussie SMG sling spare to sell or swap or a pair of the "Hooks, sling, universal CAA 1400" I would be very grateful to hear from them. From the drawing the main difference with the hooks seems to be the moving arm is a wrap around sheet metal part rather than a forged piece. Alternatively if some one could do us a photo on a red fleece back ground I'll incorperate that in the text,
Does any one have the proper name and NSN for Fig 8b sling? It's blurred on my example.
Thanks!
Tom
