Hi David now this ones set me thinking as externally this is identical (placing of rivets etc) to the ones shown in the illustrated VAOS and the photos used to do the drawing and of the cases paired up which they then did not use for illustrations.
However the deviders inside do not seem to me to be configured to carry Bren mags, or even bags of Bren mags.
Also I have photos from another eBay sale which show a identical case but with the internal divisions cut away but with clear marks showing it carried Lewis pans. The cut ends are in the dead same pattern as the ones in this new case. However this case is clearly marked as being made in 1922.
I am coming to the conclusion that the carriers shown in the illustrations are actually Lewis ones used in lieu of new made Bren ones (note also the use of the simple style of Bren cover not the version described in LoCs and that the gun is actually a ZGB) possibly converted in some way internally, possibly just used as is for the photos.
So this begs the question is a Bren carrier just a Lewis one with the internal divisions cut out?
So far I have yet to see a "Bren" mag carrier which isn't like the 1922 one, either with the divisions left in or neatly cut out...
Does anyone have one of these (Too skint to bid on this one I'm affraid or I'd be all over it like a rash!) to test fit mags in?, especially in the brown canvas 6 pack bags we can't (well I havent) found a LoC or VAOS ref to?

Hey Tom,
I'd also wondered if it would hold drum mags in the same thinking of Lewis pans. Hadn't considered the brown canvas bags of 6-mags each but guess that would be a possibility as well. Like you say, too much to gamble buying just to experiment and place things in it for fit.

Have you forgotten about the 100 rd drum mag for the Bren?

At the time of the 1937 pack saddlery illustrations the MKI Bren drum mag was a couple of years into the future.
