Hello Guys
I have inherited a 1941 Mk1 Enfield manufactured Bren Gun (deactivated) complete with magazine. It was submitted by World Wide Arms Ltd to the Birmingham Proof House for deactivation in Oct 1990, according to the certificate, which matches the number on the weapon and barrel.
It seems in pretty good used condition and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired - it sounds right too!
Having had a quick look through some reference books, I think it has a Mk2 barrel and bipod, but everything else seems right.
Sadly, despite having completed 40 years uniformed service in the RAOC/RLC and a further 6 years in the MOD, I have no desire to keep this weapon myself, but would like to see it go to someone who would appreciate it.
Since I can't sell it on eBay, I would appreciate your advice on the best way to securely dispose of gun for a fair price - some idea of its worth would be useful too please.
Happy to email photos to anyone who might be interested or it can be viewed in the Oxford area.
Thanks

Hi there! Sounds like a good one you have there, I'd be interested myself to have a mk1 go with my mk2 if I had a bit more cash As for selling it, here is a pretty good starting place, but I usually frequent the following other couple of places looking for de-act and bren related bits: www.wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/index.php - The ww2 reenacting forum, plenty of deacts and bits always for sale there www.milweb.net/index2.html - Click on Militaria & Weapons on the left to see and post classifieds, it has a special page for deacts As for price, a quick look on the ww2re forum suggests £250 for a mk1 with mk2 barrel, although yours being a Enfield built one might be worth slightly more, of course all depending on condition and how correct all the parts are. It will always help if you can get some pictures up on photobucket or a similar picture hosting site so everyone can get a good look at it. Good luck with it, Ollie

Ollie, thank you very much for your constructive helpful info - I will follow it up as you suggest, though I'm not familiar with photo sites and the like!

If you need a hand hosting some photos online, pop them in an email to me and I shall stick them up on my photobucket account so you can link to them in all the places you need to.

Ollie, thank you very much, that would be very convenient and greatly appreciated, if you don't mind. However, I think I need your email address please, or am I missing a link in the BB?

The Bren has now been found a new home in a collector's armoury. Thanks to all for your help and advice.
Kind regards
