Am I correct in thinking that the serial numbers run from 1-9999 with a letter at the beginning of each run?? So if correct, would that make a Bren with the serial number C1000 the 30997th Bren made?? TIA, Norfolk

Yes thats correct,9999 in a block prefixed by a letter (or letters).
The exception to this protocol are some 7.92mm Inglis made Brens that are prefixed by a number.

Cheers Kev. Are there any letter prefixes that are rarer or less common to find?
Where did Enfield get up to with production i.e. what was the last prefix??
Many thanks indeed, Norfolk

Last prefix for 303 (MK3) Brens reverted back to A which were 55 dated (as far as I know) Incidently the LB prefix serial numbered MK3 Brens used a 5 figure number. I suppose early serial numbered/dated guns are rare just because they are oldest . BH serial numbered guns also rare as these were the last MKIm guns produced and only went to BH883 (according to Skennerton) .......I had better hurry up and find a BH one now !
