I've a Bren MkI mag that I'm proposing to sell. Mike Priest has OK'd it as an Enfield - photos to follow - more available on request. It is immaculate and I had to clean the grease off it to display the markings. Prefer PayPal if possible, otherwise £GB please. Full refund if not satisfied, returns MUST be sent by insured postage also. Price, including insured postage, worldwide £150 or nearest offer. Cheers REG

Where does the tally of "only one of 17 in the UK" come from ? ? ? as posted on the Bren lmg site. Seems low. Someone rang Rytons after recieving some mags and thanked them for sending a rare MKI mag recently........now Freddy knows what his is looking for it goes without saying that any more they have will be at stupid prices

OK.... excuse my ignorance on bren mags...... what are the differences between the marks of Bren mags? How many marks are there? From the pics, my inglis mags look the same except no Aussie "MA" stamps.... I guess when your dumb like me, you need to buy more books.... when you have alot of books, you need to know where to look

The Mk1 mags dont have the Auxilary spring (6) shown in the picture and the top cover dosn't have the 2 half moon indents in them either. There the best ways of Identifying a Mk1 mag. As for 17 Mk1 mags, there must be more than that as I've got 5.

The number 17 was from Mike and I was bowing to his better knowledge. I'm more than happy to be corrected

Reg I think 17 is probably the number of MKI mags Mike has found in the past couple of years. I wouldn't be brave enough to put a number of true MKI mags known to exist but I would think it is a lot higher. As Chris has mentioned he has 5 so far . (though he won't be getting any more from Rytons at £2 each anymore ;D)

I tried to explain to the dealer that it might be in his interests to dig through a few boxes of mags, to which I was treated to a 10 minute remonstration about 'collectors' (said with a look of someone who had been sucking pennies) and 'worth' (washed down with freshly squeezed lemon juice).
I appreciate that there are guys out there who are happy to make a few quid here and there which makes it pleasure, still, to shop at some events. But the guy's wife had to wade in as she didn't think his reaction was justified when 'the gentleman only wanted to suggest some advice'.

Peter Laidler visited me in 2000 and wound up spending a day going through almost 2,000 heavily greased mags. A total of six Mark I's were found, which got Peter fairly exited. A couple went home with him. The chances of finding such things are probably greater here than the UK because we were not so meticulous in following WO dictates. Having siad that, we never had many early Enfield Brens, most of our war needs being supplied by Inglis with Mark I* mags.

Too many people in the know equals less bargains! Dash it all.... Not sure on total numbers but I have had 2 Mk1 mags, still got one. Regards MG
