Tool Removing Fouling Besa 7.92m.m. M.G., Mk I BG4740 introduced in LoC B5408 of December 1941 (B7141 Dec 1942 refers to a change in Nomenlecture) as a armourers tool. Shown below with a Bren Fouling Tool It was for removing fouling from the gas chambers of Mks. II and III gas cylinders. Insert, squeeze and rotate clockwise. The relevant drawing, DD(E)2926, says first drawn up in July 1942 but redrawn in December to "Suit manufacture". Instructions for markings were not added until December 1944. Construction is of cast steel with a finish of "anti-rust finish type B". LOC C1029 July 1945 refers to detail revision which I will have to look up when I get time (I only have access to the LoCs I have scanned in, theres stacks still to input!) Its a pretty good example of the general wartime confusion with regards to the procurement/issue of kit! Some items were never annouced at all, others emediately post war with the same entry also making them obsolete! ATB Tom
