Does any one have a copy of List of Changes 17712 (mid WWI) which I believe covers the intro of the Mk II Lewis.
We spent a large chunk of last night scanning in 309 images of Lewis, Hotchkiss and PMG LoCs covering 1915-1925 but I've either lost of failed to copy most of 17712 (just got the last paragraph).
We will be doing 1926-1935 tonight.
I'm unsatisfied with what I have already done 1935-1946 so when I next go to the Pattern Room I'll go through the books again as theres just so few of them!
However the run 1915-1935 should be done soon. well, as soon as they have been renamed...
If any one has a list of LoCs by type for me to check against I would be profoundly grateful.

Correction the one I am after is 17484 and any other Lewis ones clustered near it.
I also want the 17712 one but its not the intro one.
We've scanned in 432 images of small arms LoCs from 1915 to 1935, mainly PMG, Lewis and Hotchkiss ones, and I actually had a chance to look at them.
Richard, we included all the incidental Vickers and Maxim ones and I'll weed them out into a seperate file as we label them up, and post them to you asap.
A3312 (10 pages) is particularly interesting as it list the changes in designation for Machine guns and mountings to Section C1 from 16B, with previous LoC listed. Very handy and once the scans have been labelled it will help me find what else I've missed.

Thank you very much Tom. Having just received a lot of WW1 gear, they will be of particular interest.
Look forward to seeing them.

Hi Richard if you can ever get up to Leeds ask to see the two volumes of
"List of Changes - Small Arms Extracts" 1910-15 1918-1925 (the former actuall covers 1916-17 as well)
which are fabulous. They were the WDs own scrap books and should have everything in them. Time constraints ment I had to limit what I copied so the only belt fed bits I have are the ones that were on the same pages as LMG and PMG stuff.
Another thing (you'll know this) they hold are big ledgers from Vickers Armstrong listing all the serials and whens and who fors. Not sure if they were order books or completed production records. Never had the time to look at them properly. But you could tell they were dripping great gen....

I know what they have, it is just the wrong end of the country to me and as I don't drive myself it is a pain in the backside to get anywhere like that. I do intend venturing up there are some point in the near future though but I think it might be a week in a hotel while I am there!
Perhaps we could arrange to meet up there and you can show me around? - you seem to know it like the back of your hand.
Bye for now,
Rich

Yup, the Armouries Library has swallowed up the old MoD Pattern Room Library (bye bye free photo-copying and wandering around the climate controlled book vault) and the Pattern Room itself is now part of the new "National Firarms Centre" which isn't usually open to the general public but you can get in to do proper research, not gawp at the ironmongery.
I'm 45 mins away by looneywifechauffer in the Rossendale Valley and if I am a good boy herself takes a day off work, looks after the kids andI get a 8 hour session wallowing in LoCs etc.
I'f you can take time off in the week get there, its grrrrrreat!
