On another forum I post on, the discussion has arisen about the exact date that the clamp-on carrying handle for the Lewis gun was first introduced. I believe it was a late war introduction, only officially being introduced by the List of Changes in 1920. However, since this seems to be the earliest reference to them that I can find (although someone suggested they had read something from 1917 suggesting such handles MAY be introduced in the future - still not very helpful!), and I can find no pictures of such handles being used in the front line at any date, does any one have the definitive answer as to when these handles were first being made/used as opposed to their official introduction?
With thanks in advance.
