I've been working to produce an accurate model of the Vickers for some time now. I was able to get some of the 1915 Colt-Vickers engineering drawings but there are quite a number of differences between the Colt-Vickers and the British built .303 Vickers. Does anyone know where I can obtain a set of engineering drawings for the British or Australian built .303 Vickers? I know you folks in the UK are not allowed to own these drawings but it's OK to own them in the USA. Please contact me at wa4tbr@bellsouth.net if you have these drawings or know where I can purchase them. Below are a couple of renderings that will let you know where I am on this project. Thanks in advance, Orin

Hi there,
I am pretty sure there are not any restrictions on owning the drawings in th UK but sadly I do not have any. I will hopefully be paying a visit to the National Firearms Centre later in the month and the various DD(E) for the gun and accessories will be on my list of things to get copies of.
If you have had no luck by then I will try to help out.
Regards
Richard

Hi Rich
I seem to recall Tom saying that engineering drawings that could be used in the construction of a gun were restricted by the PR library. A pity, as all my replica production drawings are done by reverse engineering examples from my collection, a slow and painstaking process! If you have any luck let me know ;D

I will see what I can dig up. They may well be but that would only be a local restriction and I am not aware of any legislation that formalises it. Will let you know.

Hi Guys,
The word that I got from the Pattern Room was that while they had the drawings it was illegal for a UK resident to have copies of them and that law would prevent them from supplying them to anyone other than a US Government, or other government, agency.
So with this information in hand I then went to my US Congressman (similar to your MP) and he wrote a letter to the Pattern Room asking for copies for me. They refused his request because the end user (me) was a private individual.
Richard, I sure hope you have better luck obtaining them than I did and I really appreciate your offer of trying to obtain them.
Best Regards, Orin

Hi Orin,
I don't want to upset them as it will my first visit up there but as a bit of background, can you tell me when you made the request? I will have a chat through it with them and see what outcome I get.
Many thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,
This was about 2 years ago and as I recall the correspondance was addressed to a fellow named Henshaw or a similar name. I will look tonight to see if I still have copies of the correspondance.
Regards, Orin
