Hi Matt, Are you referring to the 'Gammon' grenade? I have one of these. Vaughan.

The 'Gammon' Bomb is the No. 82 Grenade. What Matt is referring to is the No. 74 which was a glass 'bulb' on the end of a handle which when attached to a metal object the glass cracked and set about initiating the detonator which caused it to go 'bang' (correct me if I am wrong anyone!)
Further information is available in the 1942 Grenade manual which is on my Small Arms Training page of my website.

The listing that ended early on eBay was for a very rare Mk II version which has a bakelite sphere and the handle screws into it. The more common Mk I is the glass type and the handle has a collar that screws onto it.
Not sure why the guy cancelled it himself but would speculate he was offered something for it on the side. Likely sold it for a lot less than it would have gotten on at auction but the listing had some wording that made me think he really didn't know what he had.
Sure someone is grinning happily with a new toy they got cheap.
