Box in need of ID'ing

Can anyone help identify the box in the pic below please ?
It's not mine so can only give details I have been given -

Its dated 1948 and has 2 partitions of different heights and are fitted to take the same size items.Overall about same size as 25pdr box, with wire handles bound with canvas over.There is no label or other i.d. on it except date on one end near the base, and large engraved 'N's on the ends.

Any info much appreciated.

Hi Kev,
Don't know much about the box but "N" is Naval, which may narrow down your search.
