More of a question relating to Belgian made modern arms in general including the MAG gpmg. Can anyone who is familiar with Belgian small arms tell me if parts are generally stamped/marked with a manufacturers code or initials etc ? Particularly interested in a stylised Bg mark. Can anyone help please ? Many thanks Kevin

FN dose place a number of inspection and manufacturing markings on the parts they make whether it be for the Hi Power, FAL, MAG58, Minimi etc.
The mark dosen't look familiar, what is it stamped on?, any other markings?

Hi Kev I have just looked at 5 FN FAL's (including a German G1 contract) as well as a lot of 1970 vintage FN parts still in factory plastic bags. I have also been over my FN Mod D .30-06 which has the Belgian crest on the top. I never saw the Bg mark anywhere.

Thanks guys. privatefjordy where were your sten mags with the Bg mark manufactured ? I have come across the Bg mark before on MK2 type (mostly new manufacture) Bren barrel nuts. The mark is also to be found (cheers Mike P) on the gas block and of a Canadian / Aussie pattern MK2 Bren barrel. The barrel has no commonwealth proof marks on it only a Belgian Liege mark. I was hoping other Belgian weapons might show this mark , but obviously not Anyone any ideas as to who the manufacturer or country of origin of the Bg mark ? .......maybe the Liege mark has thrown me off course ! ? The Bg mark is usualy paired with a squashed topped diamond mark with letters /numbers in it (no photo as yet). Thanks for imput so far

Here is another pic of the Bg mark from the rear of a barrel nut catch - and the pic (of not very clear) diamond mark - Does the diamond mark ring any bells ? Richard is it possible to move this thread to the Bren section please (Bg mark or similar) ? Thanks

Kev. I don't know the country for certain, but I'm sure that I've read somewhere that Bg Sten mags were post-war Belgian. I'll have a look to see if I have any other Bg marked examples, and if they have any other markings. The one I posted the picture of, has a Bg mark on the base-plate, but nothing on the follower or base-plate retainer, and no other markings. Regards, George

Kev, Found this, but don't get excited. bg WW-II German ordnance code assigned to Enzesfelder Metallwerke, Vienna, Austria. also bg Gebr. Boehler u. Co. AG, Zweigniederlassung Edelstahlwerke, Berlin Both these bits of info are from this site, proofhouse.com/index.htmI doubt if either is the same Bg marking, as they are listed in lower case (bg), not upper and lower case (Bg). It might be useful to eliminate them nonetheless. I've seen other Sten mag's with a Bg marking, so they are not rare, and all appear to be in good nick with a black paint finish.

Just a thought, could Bg simply signify Belgique on items/components for export?

I've also got a Bg marked Sten mag which is a MkI magazine. Laider says they are rare as most were converted to MkII spec by filling in the viewing holes. The follower is also marked Bg and has been reinforced with a cross piece as is the retainer plate. I have seen Bg marked on German weapons but it was in a different "font" to the Bg marked on the Sten mags.

Have been informed that Belgian ,Bg marked Sten items also include skeleton stocks and barrel shrouds.
Has anyone got or know of any other types of Bg marked Bren parts ?
