Just a idea but would there be any demand for museum quality replicas of the wooden " cavalry" Mk I and Mk I* butt assembles (the Mk I with or without oil bottle tubes and leather wrench holders) and the early bipods?
I know IMA do kits with the horrible AFV pistol grip and metal butt and because of the Light Horse use theres some interest in Oz and NZ
Any interest?

Tom, I made the newbie mistake of posting first and not reading everything. I am in very strong need of a resonably accurate Hotchkiss bipod for my IMA Benet Mercie conversion. I am building one that will pass muster at a living history activity (actually it is pretty stable), but it won't get by any "thread" counters. I am in a living history group that is doing a Mexican border impression 1916ish. I would still be doing this conversion even if not in a group. I have become fascinated with the Hotchkiss LMG. Man is this gun heavy for something supposed to be light! I am also building a rear elevation screw set up as the Will have some portative parts for anyone needing them. Due to the weight of this gun with the bipod lug fully forward, this mechanism is really necessary on the BM. The Portatives usage of the tripod with the weight shifted farther back was a good idea but it still needed the shoulder piece to lift comfortable in firing position--with the BM, this piece was part of the buttplate. With this conversion there is no going back as I have to grind off the tripod lugs on the barrel and will be installing an inline sight as well as moving the front sight to the centerline. I very much need some close up pics of the bipod along with some measurements. So far I am having to guesstimate the dimensions and can only approximate the function of bipod parts. alsumrall2001@yahoo.com
