Hi Guys. To start this Maxim forum off, I have 3 guns, all live. A .303 VSM made in 1901 on a Dundonald carriage (currently being restored), an MG08 by Spandau in 1911 on its sled mount with optics, full armour, etc, and an MG 08/15.
I would like to obtain an original belt drum for the 08/15 (I have the bracket) and also a steam cap for the water jacket. Belt loading machines for any of the above would also be most welcome!

I assume you bought repro from IMA. They are good in that they do clearly say what is original and what is not? Mark

If anyone is interested I can post some photos of my 3 Maxims. Yes?? I would love to see more pictures, especially of the one you got from a shed! I have some questions about the bluing /rust removal deal you were doing in the tank at your shop, if you don't mind helping a neophyte... ;D

I will organise some pictures of my Maxims. Regarding the reverse electolysis method of rust removal, it is a simple and well known method that requires a battery charger, a suitable tank, and a piece of stainless steel sheet. An electrolyte solution of about 10% caustic soda and water is put in the tank to completely cover the item which is connected to the negative connection. The positive connection is attached to the stainless teel sheet which is suspended in the bath without touching the part being derusted. Turn on the power and watch the progress. 6 volts is slower and more gentle, and 12 volts is faster and more aggressive. If you wish to turn the power off for any length of time make sure your part is removed from the tank otherwise it can get messy. There is quite a bit of info on Google about reverse electolysis. Try this one; www.internationalmarinerecovery.com/old/Reverse%20Electrolysis.htmGood luck ;D
