Hi
I'm new to this site but Richard will know me as he brought my Vickers collection when I was made redundant. I thought I was getting a good price at the time but we all know now how obscene prices have now become. I would not consider collecting Vickers stuff again because of the rip off prices charged by dealers.
Getting back to the original subject, I am still fascinated by Vickers / Maxim Guns and currently collect Russian Maxims Guns.
I currently have three namely a 1918 Smooth Steel Jacket, a 1936 Ribbed Jacket, and a 1944 Water Cap Jacket. All the Sokolov Mounts are also appropriate to the guns year of manufacture and display minor differences.
If there are any other collectors of these guns out there please let me know. I am trying to locate a 1905 pattern gun but these are obviously very rare. Also any other accessories that may be out there including feed blocks and belt loading machines.

In the unlikely event anyone knows of one, I am still looking for a Russian 1905 pattern Maxim.
I have found one in Finland but I think the mechanics of getting it shipped across are going to prove to differcult.
My count of weapons has now increased to four with the purchase of a very rare snow cap gun with the Finnish patttern of catch on the snow cap. I understand including my own there is one other example in the country. Trying to prove how many of these were manufactured and where is currently proving impossible.
There is a very good Russian langue magazine on the maxim which has some amazing photographs but alas I cannot understand a word of the text. If any one knows a Russian translator who would be willing to read the magazine into a tape recorder or type the text at a reasonable cost, please let me know.

George
Thanks for the link.
This company had this on their web site 2 or 3 years ago and subsequently claimed to have sold it.
I assume the mount is reproduction and the detail is also probably guess work.
The gun is is a typical Finnish rebuild containing parts of several maxims of different periods. The detail on the Brass water jacket also looks strange and I would wonder if that is reproduction as well.
Lebel - I would not bother with a condensor hose because unless you have found some good photographic sources or a period manual, there is no evidence that the Russians ever used them. The only examples on the market designed for Russian Maxims are of Finnish manufacture.
