I've got some parts for a Chinese-made copy of the 7.92 mm ZB26 that was later converted to 7.62x39. I had wanted one ever since seeing them in Dugelby's Bren book, and this set of parts was the only thing that fit my budget. Just relic condition, I'm afraid. It was a bright orange pile of rusty parts when I got it, all parts in poor condition except that chromed bore sleeve. The gas tube was kinked and bent at about 30 degrees. The wood (what's left) is garbage. It's missing several big parts and almost all of the small pins and springs. It took a gallon of "Evapo-Rust" to get the rust scale off. Still, I think it makes a fair display of the conversion. This is only for display. I had to use a hammer to cobble it together, and no parts move on it and nothing is operable. It's just a big paperweight. It is marked very similar to one in Dugelby. The trifoil was the symbol of the Kwangtung Arsenal and the numerals indicate that it was made in the 11th month of the 32nd year of the Chinese Republic (November 1943). According to Dugelby, the magazine well cover should have been shortened as part of the conversion process, but this parts set has the full length cover. I'm not sure if the Chinese were content to just let it overhang, or if a common ZB26 cover has been substituted by mistake, either before it left China or at some time here in the U.S. prior to me getting it.

Very interesting.Have you tried fitting any Czech made parts on it ? If so did they fit, or were they near enough to be able to be made to fit ?

I'm afraid I don't have any Czech parts.
Even though the Chinese parts are trashed, the quality of the manufacturing seems pretty good, so maybe so.

I have an original Czech gun And I have a Chinese parts kit. The parts are mostly interchangeable except it seems that the Chinese backwards engineered the gas tube from a worn Czech 8mm example and sometimes the gas take off spigot does not fit in a Czech gun. The mag well for the Chinese gun is also enlarged at the front and the guide lips in the receiver are also mostly machined away to make room for the AK magazine. Otherwise the receivers are identical except in quality and most likely metallurgy (the Chinese receiver seemed softer than my Czech one). As was pointed out the mag port cover is usually shorter for the Chinese gun. I could not see a difference in the dial site's cam so they may have been too lazy to change that for the 7.62X39. The Chinese also added an additional sear notch in the op rod to stop run away guns as well as extending the ejector. The top of the bolt is also relieved to clear the magazine but other wise appears identical to an 8mm one. All the ejectors (5 so far) I have seen are of the 8mm pattern and have been converted to 7.62X39 by welding on an extension. I have detailed pictures of a mag well comparison from 2 cut up receivers I had if some one wants them just e-mail me asking for them.

The one in Dugelby's book is mine and I have both the ZB26 and Bren Mk.II in 7.62 x 39. Drop me an email if you need any info or if I can help you in any way. I suspect you got your deac. from a place in Arizona. Cheers, Warren
