Dear All, Am looking for a sear with spring to finish my lock restoration. Have some parts to trade:
Brass feed block, WD acceptance stamped and V. 303 marked but no maker info, steel parts stamped DA43. Good condition (has been completely stripped and cleaned).
Spout/cap for 2 gallon tin, slightly rusted but will clean up.
1 x oil bottle cap, VAC marked.
Safety catch, VAC marked.
Or am prepared to pay cash. Hope someone can help, have searched all the commercial websites on both sides of the Atlantic and cannot find one anywhere.
Richard

I will have a rummage in my parts and see what I can find. I presume you are restoring a standard Vickers lock?

Woodsy, Yes, it is a standard lock. When I got my Vickers, the lock lacked all its contents and had a butchered extractor (face milled completely flat), have got everything together (deact. of course) to get it dry firing again except this last bit.
Many thanks by the way for your Lewis advice - no joy I'm afraid, the barrels on British deacts. are welded to the receivers and this prevents the cowling from being removed. This is what the manuals seemed to suggest but they are not always clear.
Regards, Richard

Hi Richard
I don't have one in my Vickers spares but I could make you one to original specs without much difficulty. I would be happy to do this is exchange for one of your trade items. If you can't locate an original let me know.

Woodsy, Will wait until the new year, but if nothing turns up I would be happy to take up your offer. Would the lock do as recompense for making me a brand new sear? How do you go about making the spring?
Richard

Hi Richard I am a gunsmith by profession with almost 40 years in the trade so spring-making is something I do regularly. I will duplicate the part from my Vickers and it will be made of properly heat-treated alloy steel, and the spring from high grade spring steel. We will talk in the New Year. You can email me at gundoc@xtra.co.nz Cheers & merry Christmas!
