Good afternoon people,
I am currently 'reviewing' the collection and one of the weapons I have never been entirely happy with is a Webley revolver of mine.
It has a 4" barrel and is serial number A10448. I bought it a few years ago, as I was buying anything then, and it has always just hung on the wall. I am aware it is not a British Service Mk. IV as the barrel is only 4" but what is it?
If anyone can help ID it then please do so. Also if anyone is interested in buying it then I would be happy to sell it.
I will post a photo later one today.
Regards
Richard
PS - It was deactivated in 1987 and the chambers are clear and hold inert ammunition quite nicely.

Hi Richard
What calibre is the revolver. I ask because there was a Webley MkIV in .455 and a Mk4 in .380. From the serial number I think it maybe a .380. If I knew for sure I maybe able to ID it. Cheers

Hi Richard
So .380 Mk4, Probably it won`t be service issue, Almost all had 5" barrels, although some did have 4" barrels. All taken into service would have WD markings. The serial number on yours is pre 1957, after that they went onto `B` prefix. (I did have a civvie Mk4 number A32804, This was made in 1950, so yours is before 1950) Chances are its either civilian production or was made to order for a particular Police Force. I did also have a Mk4 .380 `A` prefix that had been made for the Hong Kong Police and that was marked HKP.
Anyway I hope this helps. Regards Peter

It does help. Thank you. I did find a site online that said that the 4" barrels were also made for the Toronto Police Service but I don't know?!?
If you are aware of anyone collecting commercial Webleys then please let them know that it is for sale - I have enough service revolvers without needing non-service ones!
Thanks,
Richard
PS - Any idea of an approximate retail value?

Hi Richard None Military Webley Mk4s , old spec, go for anything between £120 to about £200 dependent on condition, I have seen a few new spec around the £100 mark though. If its an unusual model, say one made for a police force and is marked to prove it, then they can be worth more. I personally don`t know anyone who collects just Webley`s, but someone out there must be after one.
I would be surprised if the Toronto Police Force brought Webley`s, why not just buy from the states, Colt or S&W revolvers would be easier to get as opposed to shipping Webley`s from the UK. Mind you, considering where some Webley`s turn up its certainly not impossible.

Thanks Peter, I think I would be quite happy to get £120 for it.
I will upload some photos in a moment.
Cheers,
Rich

Many Canadian Police forces used the Webley in the late 40's and early 50's. It was a matter or price. The Webley was a good serviceable firearm and the 38 S&W round was mandated by the police services.

Right then, I have finally sorted out some photos. Webley Mk. IV .38 Revolver. Non Military service (possible Police). 4" barrel. Serial Number: A10448 Very good condition and nice finish. Deactivated in 1987 - clear chambers hold inert ammunition well (6 rounds included). Deactivation certificate included. £120 plus any postage costs (within UK only).
