A very nice example of a first pattern deactivation spec. (deactivated to the pre-1995 specification), Thompson M1A1 sub-machine gun. The weapon is fully field strippable. Indeed, just to prove the process, working from the manual, I recently broke the receiver down to it's component parts and re-assembled it. (i.e removed the mainspring, bolt, stop, etc.)
The bolt works with a very nice oiled, machined steel click, the trigger works. (don't leave a finger in the breach when that bolt drops!), as do the safety & the fire selector.
This TSMG is in very nice order, with good woodwork. It has been regularly cleaned & oiled as if it were fully functional. It was deactivated in December '94 by Interarms of Manchester, and certified by the London Proof House. It has been owned by myself since mid 1997. In the last 8 years it's had lots of TLC!
The Thompson comes with an original Kerr sling, correct for this weapon, a 20 round magazine and a 30 round magazine, both of which are WW2 period. Of course, you get the certificate as well.
This Thompson's serial is in the 808,000 range, so I would think that it would have been produced in the early 1944 period, although I can't confirm this 100%, as I don't have access to the required records. (If anyone can corrct me - please do - I'd like to know for sure.
My reason for sale is purely to raise funds to purchase an M1928A1. We have three other M1A1 thompsons in our LH group, but no early model of the weapon.
Photographs of the weapon can be sent to anyone genuinely interested if you PM me with your e-mail address. Sorry - I couldn't figure how to attach them to this post.
Over the weekend of 3/4 December ther were 14 early spec. deact M1A1 Thompson's on the market, excluding mine. These were found in the latest issue of 'Gunmart', on the 'Milweb' website and on various dealer websites,.
The average price via a dealer was £785 over 7 items (Highest £850)
The average private sale price was £602 over 7 items. (Highest £700)
So considering the condition of my particular example, the bits with it, and the fact that I would like to see a successful sale, I'd be looking at a price of £550.
Check my figures by all means. If nothing else, it will show you that you'll get no change out of the dealers. One, who I'll not name, offered me £450 & told me that was the expected selling price, despite all the evidence to the contrary!
I hope that you find this a reasonable price & I look forward to your response.
Finally, please understand that I've been a re-enactor for almost 10 years.I'm known to many, within the re-enactment, living history, military vehicle circles, so I have a reputation to loose by being anything other than honest. This is a no nonsense deal. You get exactly what is described. No catches.
This could be the idea last minute Xmas present - to yourself!
