I am in need of blueprints for the Sterling Mk4 L2A3.
Does anyone have or know where I can obtain (purchase) a set of drawings?
Regards, Orin

The Armouries library will NOT give out drawings to enable manufacture of weapons.Do not waste your time and theirs asking.

Kev is right - The Pattern Room - Royal Armories museum - will not let out any weapons drawings. I have heard that this is because of a British law - Does anyone have a link to this law?
I also have been told that they don't have drawings because the Sterling was developed by a private company and they were destroyed when British Aerospace acquired Sterling. Is this true??

Orin I dont think BAE had any connection with Sterling. Nottingham SAF www.rofnottingham.co.uk/02_history.htm have quite a few L4A4 drawings and they will not release ANY drawings due to copyright issues. Who now owns Sterlings archives (if they were kept ?) is probably best answered by some one else as I know sod all about this stuff....sorry.

Hi Kev,
That the drawings and tooling were destroyed by BAE came from one of your countrymen that was at Sterling when it was acquired by BAE in 1989 or 1990. Apparently there were some politics being played in the background and getting Sterling out of the market was to BAE's benefit.
Let's hope that a board member with knowledge of what really went on will chime in on this thread. Another hope is that someone that was at Sterling at the time had the foresight to keep a set of drawings and that they will come to light someday.
Regards, Orin

If I remember right (need to dig out "The Guns of Dagenham") the gov't also manufactured L2A3s at Fazackerly, although not to the same quality so the Gov't should have a set of drawings, toolings etc.

Do you need a complete set of drawings, or just the body drawings? I could produce a reverse-engineered set of body drawings if required, from guns in my collection.

Woodsy and Peter....
Thanks to both of you for your kind offer to assist me with this. All I really need is an accurate drawing of the receiver (body) and I can reverse engineer the other parts from what I have here.
I am sending both of you an email so we can work out the logistics.
Regards, Orin

Some of the Sterling records such as Sales registers are in the RA Library, as I have had a look through them. I do not know about the drawings unfortunately. Regards AlanD Sydney

Have you had any success in finding blueprints. I have a copy of the service chart 'MP4343'. It shows a top view and a side view which is a 'cut-out' Lots of little 'ballons' with numbers and part names.

I've have found an "after market" drawing but it's inaccurate and a waste of time. I guess the person that drew it knew as much because there is no signature in the title block - That's a nice training chart that you have but it doesn't show any of the dimensions, only parts identification.
