My 1st Belt-fed weapon; Vickers Mark 1 .303 caliber Ser. # 1578 Small Arms Factory Lithgow
Tripod: R. Hornsby & Sons 1916
I will soon be coverting this to 7.62 X 54 Russian cal. as .303 in the USA costs about 50 cents per round. I'll post some pics of it once it cools down a bit more here in Arizona.

Not sure of how to identify everything noted in the above posts but #H 844 (I have #844 barrel for 8 MM but not for .303) 8 x 57 now, was .303 when aquired, marked VSM........I have mounted it on a Swiss/Finn style mount as I felt the original tended to rock too much causing lots of vertical dispersion.

Well if there is no letter prefix then it is most likely a Australian gun and a serial number that high would be about 1942 or '43.
I am not as smart as some on here and I am sure that the more knowledgeable will pipe up if I am out to lunch.
just my 2 cents....

The V series guns were made during WW2 but the records were lost when the factory was closed. The boys should have asked me yesterday when I was there doing my weekly gunsmithing delivery, and collecting my 1942 dated M3 .50 cal tripod that just arrived from overseas.

I forgot to mention that the gun was made by Vickers-Armstrong at the Crayford factory (VAC).

I have what I believe to be a 1918 fluted Vickers s/n B2586 bought from Worldwide Arms July 1993 by me with several accessories, mostly 'between the wars' vintage but a WW1 petrol can. It is marked EY, for emergency use of ball rounds. The whole lot is in top condition, and is an excellent display.
I understand it came out of Australia, but was made here.
Elsewhere I have posted under 'Wants', as I am seeking an original tabbed ammo belt and a 1918 era ammo box, either wooden or metal.

Would love to see pictures of her...... ;D I find that the WW1 belts are a little difficult to locate and seem to run a bit on the pricey side..... Maybe I just don't know where to look.
