Thanks for replying. I'll sort a photo or two in due course....gun's in storage at the mo, but I can retrieve.
IMA in USA currently have correct tabbed and dated belts for sale, c$160. Does anyone have any experience of this co? handpicked is $15 extra, tracked postage by UPS on top.
I sent them an em but no reply to a detailed question as yet.
2 boxes for sale in the UK at present, wooden for £275 and metal dated 1917 for £350!!! I have noticed a Browning ammo box for sale, again wooden, which looks identical to the Vickers wooden one. Any views on this out there?
Thanks for helping, much appreciated.

I have bought a couple of things from IMA and have been very happy with them. 350 Pounds is way over the top for a Mk 8 box, and 275 for a wooden box (Mk III?) is probably OK. The wooden Browning box is quite common but totally incorrect for the Vickers.

I dont think H2891 is a Lithgow gun. its probably Enfield. Lithgow guns were only A & B prefixed I think

That's correct. The 'H' series gun will be British made at Erith (rather than Enfield); however, it is likely to have plenty of 'MA' parts if it served in the Australian forces.
Also, the B series gun is an early Australian one that would be quite interesting to see photos of if you have the time.

Rich, when you say the B series gun is early, how many guns did they make? I didn't think it was many more than 12344. If thats correct, then B113 is the 10112th of the line which makes it quite late. (Unless they numbered them back to front) My gun is number B2092 which I always thought ws one of the last, have I been wrong all these years?

Sorry. Should have made myself clearer. You are correct in that they were numbered well and it would have been 10112th. I've not seen many 'B' series guns under the 1,000 and I'd be interested in seeing some photos of it, that's all.
Your gun is still one of the last few made!

hi
the gun with the H2891 serial is a little bit strange.
it appears to have the original serial nummber ground off, and a new one stamped in.
it is mostly constructed with MA parts, but all the components of the lock are stamped VSM.
could it be that this gun was FTR somewhere in england?
it will sort our some photos tommorrow

If you sort some photos out of both guns, it will make things a little clearer. I'd be interested to see some of the detail on the ground off serial number.
