Well here is my Baby: Mark or Class: Mark ICaliber: 7.92x57 (8mm Mauser)Serial Number: D230Manufacturer: Crayford - Jan 1918My gun is a Belgian convert from .303 to 8mm for the Turks at the start of WW2 as an incentive to keep them out of the war. Mine has a AA sight mount on the water jacket and the AA "flag" rear sight on the top cover. It is also Belgian proofed over to 8mm. It has a corrugated water jacket as well and is in pristine condition. ;D Looks like The Vickers in Dolf's "Grand Old Lady of No Man's Land pgs 432-437 Me firing it on the range a few years ago in WW2 battle dress ;D

Lithgow Vickers #1250 would have been manufactured in 1940 (ref; page 29, Australian Service Machineguns by Skennerton).

Thanks Rod, adjusted the post accordingly, where would I find the date on my gun? Most of the parts say 1942 but I know that parts are nothing to go on.
Have you seen theres only 49 tripods between my tripod and yours.

The water jacket may well have a small date stamp but it would be covered in paint and be hard to find. I have never found one on mine. The internal parts were all mixed up when the guns were FTR'd as you know, so those dates could be anything from 1939 to 1945. As far as I know, I believe Interarms in Manchester bought the entire Aussie lot of Vickers. I know of 3 guns here (including mine) from that source and all FTR'd. I have had mine out for the odd Army demo shoot and it runs like a Swiss watch!

My Lithgow came from ryton arms, but that dosnt mean it cant have come from interarms originally. Co-incidently, my first Bren came from there in 1989, just happened to be a 1939 DD. It was in amongst about 100 or so mk1's and 2's and I happened to pick that one, not because I knew what it was, just luck.
