Just a question, but with all of the reproduction bits for the bren (mk 1 butt handle, clips for the tripod, etc.) how difficult would it be to make a reproduction sight such as this? Certainly there would be a great deal of interest in it even though it would probably be costly.

The problem is theres so much semi-official and trials stuff thats just not recorded. It all boils down to provanance and what you are happy with.
And even when you find proof, say a drawing and a official order for x thousand, you don't know if missing from the file is the memo from the next day cancelling the lot as not required!
Contempary photos are the thing in my opinion.

If I was in the US with a semi auto Bren I'd be certainly be interested in a telescopic sight for the Bren.
What the state of prescion casting these days? It wouldn't be hard work to take a stripped Mk I sight bracket (which would fit any dovetail so would work on the Vickers etc) and build it up with miliput or similar until it was the right shape to take a standard No. 4T sight mount would it? Have some prescion castings made and then drill and tap them to take the mount? I am no engineer so don't know how feasable it is.
Would it have to be made over sized to be milled down at critical points or are casting techniques good enough theses days? I'm pretty sure that they make repro No. 4 T mounting kits don't they?
Just a thought.

Cheers me dears! Look forward to them. If they get here as after 3 days of blissfully clear skies it's now snowing like hell.
Also, the last bit that the builders are doing to my much gone on about private LMG museum come workshop come den come family room (they follow me where ever I hide...) the industrial sink thingy has been delayed by two to three weeks as the factory and warehouse has burned down.
So if anyone knows where you can get a cheap catering/industrial type sink unit in the North East off the shelf I'd love to know. Not desperately in a hurry as I have got to fill and sand 25' by 35' of floor boards, varnish them to death and paint whats basically a small barn...

PS if I go off line for a bit you'll know why...

This mount seems to have generated a lot of interest. The mount came from a chap who 20 odd years ago bought it with a load of other bren stuff. When you could easily have a live firer, he used to do repairs and modifications to them. The comment on the scope is correct, it is just on the mount for display purposes, although the peep hole in the mounts does line up with the front sight on the bren. Who knows wether it is an armourers prototype or not, ( it does have a bren serial mark) the only drawings that are circulating relate to the ones that did go into production and were destroyed. What would other members think about it if it had come into their ownership and there was a chance that this was the only one in existance?

The serial number you refer to is BA 6070 I believe ?, this would not have any relevance as the Bren it would have mated to would have been a 1943 Enfield Bren MKIm with NO dovetail bracket. Could be a part number but BE is generally Bren, BA (I think) is usually for .303 rifle parts. It probably IS the only one of this type in existence .....but I could equally make something similar over the weekend which would also be unique. It would be interesting.....but of no value in terms of money or historical interest. If it is of interest to you that is good enough
