I'm jumping around a bit here. I'm still messing around with a cheap idea for a home made mount. Pintles and sockets are hard to make without a lathe. Here is an idea that may be useful. When we're attempting a home built project a little clever ingenuity is valuable. Here is a situation that I'm up against. I need a pintle and socket, the pintle to complete the cradle and yoke and a socket to receive the yoke to the socket. I don't have a lathe at hand to make them with. What I do have is a worn out front wheel bearing and hub assembly from a 2005 GMC half ton pickup. I trimmed the wheel hub with lugs to a useful size and I'll add a pipe to the hub and then weld the mount yoke to that. I'll use the three hole mounting flange to attach it to the tripod. Later I'll use a turn buckle for a T&E device.

It may not make much sense right now but as it all comes together the idea will be apparent. This tripod is designed to be bolted down. There's not enough of a footprint to be stable as a free standing mount. Our coast guard and navy use these mounts more than anyone else. I think they could be utilized on truck beds and trailers though.

Sorry for the delay in new posts but my pc took a nose dive a couple of weeks ago. I obtained a laptop to carry on with for now. Not ideal at all. I loaned the replicas out to a friend and didn't get a chance to burn the hand made one. Now I'm pooped out (tired) from all the fab work in my shed and the work I do for a living. I'll be back though!

The junk pile is growing. As I gather more parts for builds my enthusiasm is fading. Old too soon and smart too late. No profit, just satisfaction that what I like is liked by a few others.

A bottle of single malt scotch might be more affective but your welding is going to suffer (badly) !
