I'm looking for any, and I mean any, info on Bren Tripods. Theres very little in the BGS, I know the versions but not Quantaties. Who were the makers, CCM, AGE (What does AGE stand for?), BSA, any more? Colour? Markings? Any one with serial numbers?
cheers, chris.
p.s. Rod, what do you know about NZ tripods? One of my tripods has a N^Z serial number stamped on the head aswell as the Manufacturers number.

CCM - Canadian Cycle & Motor
AGE - Australia General Electric
BSA
India also made tripods but manufacturers unknown to me.India also made 100 or so folding MK3 Airborne tripods for trials along the lines of the BSA MK2*. Another variation was a Bren / Vickers tripod that was trialed adapted from a M2 Browning .30 cal tripod.
(India info from Toms ferreting at the PR ;D )

Hi Chris
The very first NZ Brens came from UK (1938-1940) and would have had BSA tripods, but these shipments were quite small. The great bulk of our Brens came from Canada, and the tripods are all CCM (as is mine). I don't know what the ratio of Brens to tripods was but I suspect it would have been about 10:1
Cheers

Cheers, Kev, Woodsy,
Rod, is your CCM tripod a Mk2? Does it have a NZ number? My tripod has N^Z A1904.
Its intresting to note that by the end of 1939 a total of 24,000 to 25,000 Bren guns had been built at Enfield and BSA had built around 9000 to 10,000 Tripods. Thats 2.5 Brens to 1 Tripod.

I have A7653, 1943 dated with no holes for the clips. Would you mind giving me the numbers of your other tripods? I've started a database for the tripods too.
Cheers,
