I know when I went through my trade training in 1995 there was a Bren tripod in the classroom. I tried to get the instructor to let me give a new home but he didn't know why it was there and didn't want to be the one to let it walk.

Hi Brit' they are a bit big to put down the wire but if you send me somewhere to send it I'll stick it on a disc. Did I send you the DD(E)s, theres about 350 Bren sheets?
Sorry i've forgot who has what!

Hi Britplumber. My one is by A.G.E. Serial A.2791 Date 42 Regards, George. Thanks George, does that one have the butt handle clips/holes present like Pongo's? Not sure. There are no clips, that I do know, but I'll have to have another look at it for holes. Not having paid any attention to it in all the years I've owned it, where should I be looking for the holes, how many, how big?

OK, I have a bren and a tripod marked BSA... strange since I am in Canada and you would think it should be CCM.... I have looked all over and cannot find a serial number. Can anyone tell me where to find it and its age?
My Bren is an Inglis that went to NZ and found its way back to Canada somewhere along the line.
Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig , the serial number and date of manufacture can be found next to the flat by the front mounting.

Humm... cleaned the paint off by the bayonet mount for the AA leg and it looks like B7240 and a '39 a little down from what I think is the serial number. Does that sound correct for a BSA tripod?

My tripod is a CCM, Mk 1, serial M 8566, NZ number NZ^A 1622, and it has the butt handle clips. The date is hard to read because it has been double stamped but I think it is '42. We used the stamp N^Z from the 1870's till 1939, then went to NZ^A (NZ Army) but changed back to the N^Z about 1942 to be more appropriate for all services.
Cheers

Are the Tripods numbered to match a particular gun? I have seen a Canadian CCM, serial No M9998 also dated '42, but wouldn't the Inglis Bren of the same number have been made in '40 or '41?

The serial numbers for the Tripods are independent of the Gun's. It appears there were 2-3 guns per 1 Tripod produced.

Pongo, we used the L4 in the 90s in Germany. I never saw any tripods in use nor any in the stores. We did have the spares wallets and holdalls - some with 1940s dates on, which caused a few laughs! ;D

The number is on the socket for the AA leg/Enfield rifle, (that area is usually left in the white). It should be a letter and 1-4 digits long. I've got 4 tripods, 2 are in the Australian matt nato type green, 1 is in a green gloss type paint. The 4th is sort of camo green/blue colour.
